Each spring, students have the opportunity to vote for who will represent them to the Student Government Association and Academic Senate in university governance. These directly elected positions who advocate on behalf of students are Senators, and Senators are vital to the advancement of student interests and preservation of student rights.
All Senators must be elected to a one year term by their peers during the student elections, however senator positions may be considered vacant in the cases of recall, impeachment, resignation, or if the ballot had undeclared positions. In these circumstances there is an open call to the campus community for applications to ensure adequate student representation. The Student Body President is responsible for appointment of applicants, and the Student Assembly confirms.
SGA may utilize interns to help the Association carry out its legislative business for possible academic credit. Past internships have included a historical research intern and a legislative intern. SGA does not anticipate a need for interns at the present time.
