Meetings and Legislation

Be in the know. Student Government Association meetings are open to the public.

Meetings

Meetings of the Student Government Association take place approximately twice a month throughout the academic year. Additionally, there is a summer meeting that normally takes place in the latter half of July. At business meetings, members of the Association report on progress being made on numerous initiatives, and discuss issues of concern to the student body and the University community.

All SGA Meetings are open to the public, in accordance with the Open Meetings Act. Portions of a meeting may be held in Executive Session when SGA is addressing issues involving private information, such as personnel issues.

Legislation

SGA legislation comes in two primary forms; resolutions and bills. Resolutions can state an opinion of the current Association and cause the Association to take specific actions, but do not pass on to future Associations. Bills also state an opinion of the Association and cause the Association to take specific actions, but are considered to be in perpetuity (permanent), passing from one SGA Administration to the next.
